unit 3

1)ELAALRL4 The student employs a variety of writing genres to demonstrate a comprehensive grasp of significant ideas in selected literary works. The student composes essays, narratives, poems, or technical documents

I think this means that we are going to be learning how to write things such as essays and poems so that we can sow that we get the ideas in the things we are reading.

2)Which side of the divide do you fall? Are you closer to being a Transcendentalist or a Dark Romantic? Explain your answer with a short paragraph.

I think that I would have to be a Dark Romantic because I think that everyone has a bad side to them. I think that as far a Transcendentalist thinks, they just thought that it was only good and that was not true. Not everything that we do God would think is right so when they say god send you signs etc. they could be bad things you do and I don’t think god tell you to do bad things.

4) Write a 2-3 paragraph response to the story you read. You should explain what you thought of the story as well as how well it illustrates how the Dark Romantics disagreed with the Transcendentalists. You need to provide at least a line or two of direct textual evidence from the story you chose to prove your claim.

This was about a man that loved animals so much that people thought something was wrong with him. He had a wife that was the same as him. The moved together and got a lot of animals .He really loved this black cat but he started drinking. And that when everything went down hill and he started to feel violently about everything.

The first time he got really drunk he cut his cat’s eye out and later killed it. The night he killed the cat he house burned down. The only wall that was still there was the wall with the cat that he killed on it. They moved into a new place and when he was out he saw a new cat. It came home with him and it look almost the same as the last cat. Then he started to hate it and tried too kill it but killed his wife.

This was an example of Dark Romantics work because it had a lot of killing in it. One example of this in the story would be “I withdrew my arm from her grasp and buried the axe in her brain.” What he was saying in this was that he tried to kill the cat but his wife tried to stop him so he killed her.
